Tour #1 - Annapolis Tidal Plant

Description:

The Annapolis Tidal Plant is a unique generating station, as it uses the highest tides in the world to generate energy. It is a one-way tidal barrage that generates electricity during falling (ebb) tide, during the discharge from the headpond into the sea. During the rising tide period, sea water is sluiced in the upstream direction into the reservoir.

The scope of the technical tour includes a visit to the upper machine floor, where information on the machine and seals will be provided. A review of the governor system, cathodic protection system and chlorine generator system will also take place. The tour continues to the bottom floor of the Tidal Plant, where guests will see the horizontal generator up close, along with a view of the linkages and wicket gates. Next, the tour will take guests through the control room for the facility. The tour finishes in the Interpretative Center, where guests will have an opportunity to ask questions.

Following the technical tour, the group will be stopping at a local winery for lunch and an optional wine tasting.
